Hot options

Just heated or mulled with spices, warmed mead is a perfect and cozy evening treat.

  • Like Sake, mead can be warmed on its own. The easiest way to do this is to heat 3 oz of (covered) mead in the microwave for 20 seconds if using a 600W microwave, or 15 seconds if using a 1000W microwave.
  • For more variety, mead can be mulled with an assortment of spices including cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and whole star anise.
  • Fresh ginger adds a hint of spicy heat to this mulled mead.
  • You might also consider adding a splash of apricot or apple brandy, but you might find that mead is strong enough on its own!

A mixer!

Mead having a honey base can be a great (if not dry) cocktail addition to any drink which already incorporates honey!

  • The Bee's Knees is a simple drink consisting of gin, honey and lemon juice with amounts safely adjusted to the drinkers preference
    • Can also be enjoyed hot!
  • A splash of Angostura Bitters, 1 oz apple juice, 1/2 oz ginger ale and 2 oz of mead makes you an exotic mule with a big bite
    • Can also be enjoyed hot!
  • 2 oz of mead, 1 oz of tequila, 1 oz of grapefruit juice with soda water to top for a fun foreign twist on a familiar concept.
  • ... or of course just pour some of the golden stuff into a nice cup of tea.
